Wilkor Computing Services Inc. offers general computing and consulting services for server-based solutions. Wilkor specializes in services for VAX/VMS or OpenVMS on VAX, Alpha, and Integrity (Itanium) platforms. We also offer services for most UNIX-based systems.

Located in Alberta, Wilkor offers services within the province and throughout western Canada.

    Incident Response

    Wilkor offers emergency response to incidents and problems occurring in most service areas including but not limited to

    • most hardware and software aspects of VAX, AlphaServer, and Integrity products,
    • all aspects of OpenVMS (VMSclusters and Layered Products),
    • network integration of heterogeneous systems, and
    • general system management and administration.

    Emergency services are offered at hourly, daily. and weekly rates. The rates are dependent on the type, severity, and urgency of the problem. Consideration is given to returning clients and clients with service agreements.

    Service Projects

    In response to requests from clients, and sometimes as a consequence of an Incident Response, a specific task or "project" may be identified by either the client or by Wilkor.

    Service Projects are undertaken by Wilkor either at a fixed cost per project, or at a rate agreed to before the project begins. The charge for all projects are determined on an individual basis.

    Service Agreements

    Wilkor offers Service Agreements to provide proactive, preventive services that include monitoring and certain casual services (such as system tuning or the installation and upgrades of selected software products).

    Service agreements often augment the client's operations by providing expert support in certain areas of systems and network management and operations. Wilkor works with the operations staff to design a cost-effective agreement that supplements operations with timely, expert services, thereby affording the most effective use of the client's operations staff.

    Clients with Service Agreements are charged a nominal fee per month for a basic level of service (established at the start of the agreement), with additional preset charges for Incident Responses or Service Projects beyond the scope of the Agreement.

    System Consulting Services

    OpenVMS System Management and Operations

    Wilkor offers a comprehensive set of alternate methods for the management and operations of OpenVMS and VAX/VMS systems. The following summarize some of the areas for which various methods are available.
    • Operations Management
      Establishing methodologies and procedures consistent with the organization's operating procedures, and which make the most effective use of operations staff and resources.
    • Account Management
      Establishing a user account management methodology consistent with existing policy, or which introduces a policy with minimal impact on existing methods while trying to ensure the methodology can be integrated with that of other platforms.
    • Resource Management
      Establishing methodologies and procedures for the use of computing resources and their management, including disks, tapes, and printers.
    • Security Management
      Establishing a policy and methodology for security of both resources and information of a computing environment.

    Migration of OpenVMS to new platforms

    Wilkor can help determine if migration of OpenVMS to faster, less-expensive platforms is cost-effective, and whether the current applications and procedures will operate in the new systems. Wilkor can perform the migration or assist the organizations' operations staff with the migration.

    With experience in both migration of single systems and VMSclusters, Wilkor offers an understanding of OpenVMS that can readily predict and identify issues to be addressed during the migration.

    OpenVMS Installation and Upgrades

    For both new and existing OpenVMS and VAX/VMS sites, Wilkor can effectively perform installations and upgrades of OpenVMS applications. Experience and expertise helps to identify potential problems before and after any significant change, and helps to address these before they impact the organization's computing environment.

    UNIX System Administration

    Wilkor provides UNIX services for sites with a small UNIX environment. Wilkor emphasizes System Management and Operations Support and TCP/IP Network Integration that is consistent across a heterogeneous network environment.

    Network Consulting Services

    Differing systems in an organization offer significant administrative and technical challanges. Wilkor Computing Services Inc. uses its experience with many of these systems to help develop a comprehensive and consistent integrated environment taking advantage of an organization's existing facilities.

    Wilkor recognizes the importance of Network Services and the responsibility to ensure authorized access to information provided by these services. It therefore offers services and support for the definition, installation, and administration of a network infrastructure for private and public access of popular Network Services.
